Ruru Festival at Ridi from Jan 15

Kathmandu, Jan. 3: Ruru Friends' Club of Gulmi district is organising 'Ruru Festival' at Ridi bazaar of the district from January 15 to 21. The objective of the festival is to promote local culture, historical sites and for publicity of local products of Gulmi.At a interaction programme Thursday former Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (CTCA), Pradip Gyawali said the district should be developed as a tourist destination and a centre of culture and education. The place has potential in attracting domestic and foreign tourists. ?We need to further investigate the historical and cultural aspects of the district," he added.The district also offers plenty of scope in agriculture development. ?We should develop an effective model for the development of the district," he added.Secretary at the Ministry Lila Main Paudel said the festival would motivate youths to know about district's rich culture, tradition and religion. There is need for preserving culture and tradition for the next generation, Paudel said.?Everyone should participate in the festival to make it a success," he said.Secretary of the Ruru Friend Clubs, Himal Shrestha said it would be the first such festival in the distribute. ?The festival could play a vital role to develop the social and economic sectors of Gulmi district."He said the festival would promote the local products and tourism as well as provide the local people about new technologies At the festival will be exhibited locally made woolen blankets, handicraft goods, goods for daily use, garments, furniture, leather shoes, jackets and cosmetic goods.There will be more than 150 stalls and the rent of each stall has been fixed from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 6,000.Gorkha Brewery Pvt Ltd and Himalayan Snacks and Noodles Pvt Ltd are main sponsors of the festival.
