11 killed, 30 injured in Gulmi jeep mishap

The death toll in the jeep mishap which took place at Gairhekhutta of Daugaha VDC in Gulmi district Friday morning has reached 11.
Nine persons including a minor died on the spot while two others died on their way to hospital when the jeep (Lu 1 Ja 552) bound to the district headquarters Tamghas from Daugaha VDC skidded off the road.
The jeep was carrying Maoist activists who were heading towards a district-level training of party activists in Tamghas.
Over two dozen people were injured in the accident. They are undergoing treatment at the Mission Hospital in Tansen, the headquarters of Palpa district.
The condition of six of the injured is critical, according to the police.
The deceased have been identified as Dev Bahadur Gyawali, Harsha Bahadur Gharti Magar, Ram Prasad Ghimire, and Khim Bahadur Sunar of Daugaha VDC, driver Shiva Pandey of Kerunga Arghakhanchi, 9-year old Narbada Bhandari, Gobinda Bhandari, Leeladhar Khanal of Digam VDC-6, Krishna Prasad Shrestha of Hastichaur VDC, and Danda Bahadur Pandey and Bal Bahadur Darjee of Kharchayang VDC.
The old vehicle was carrying commuters beyond its capacity resulting in the mishap, police said.
Local residents and a police team from the Area Police Office, Ridi, had immediately reached the accident site, 40 kilometers away from the district headquarters, to carry out rescue operation.
